Product Issues and Support
The rating you need depends on the fixture's exposure to the elements.
Damp-Rated: Suitable for locations where the fixture is protected from direct rain, such as under a covered porch, awning, or patio ceiling.
Wet-Rated: Essential for any location that will be exposed directly to rain, snow, or water spray, such as on an open exterior wall or flanking a garage door. We recommend Wet-Rated fixtures (IP44 or higher) for maximum durability.
The general rule of thumb is to install the light fixture so its center point is roughly at eye level to avoid glare and maximize illumination coverage.
Recommended Height: 66 to 72 inches (5.5 to 6 feet) from the ground to the center of the light's electrical box.
Tip for Entryways: If placing lights on either side of a door, ensure they are positioned about 6 to 12 inches away from the door frame.
To ensure visual balance and proper scale, the size of your fixture should be proportionate to the height of your door.
Sizing Rule: The height of your outdoor wall light should be approximately $1/4$ to $1/3$ the height of the door it is placed next to. Choosing a light that is too small is a very common mistake.
Both options have benefits, but integrated LED offers superior longevity and efficiency.
Integrated LED: The LED is built directly into the fixture. These offer up to 50,000 hours of light, excellent energy efficiency, and a more streamlined look.
Standard Bulb Fixtures: These allow you to change the bulb (e.g., $E26/E27$ base) and control the color temperature ($CCT$) and brightness ($Lumens$) easily, but the bulbs must be replaced more often.
For areas with high moisture, salt, or severe weather, choose these durable materials:
Aluminum: Lightweight, rust-proof, and the most common material.
Brass or Copper: Highly resistant to corrosion; they develop a desirable natural patina over time.
316 Stainless Steel: Superior to standard stainless steel (like 304) and highly recommended for coastal or marine environments due to its excellent salt resistance.
